  Entrance Requirements for International Students

Students must provide the following information before acceptance to Averett:

  • A completed international student application for admission. The application may be completed on-line or students may contact us by e-mail to request an application by mail. They must provide official translations for any documents not written in English.
  • Non-refundable $35 application fee. A fee waiver may be granted in cases of extreme financial hardship. A request for a fee waiver must be submitted in writing.
  • A brief self-statement (150 words or less) describing the experiences and influences that have contributed most to making the student the kind of person he/she is.
  • Official or certified copy of yearly secondary school transcript that indicates the courses taken and grades or marks received. If applicable, the school-leaving certificate must accompany the transcript.

If a student wishes to transfer from a university outside the United States, he/she must have an official or certified copy of the university transcript sent to Averett University. Students must also have a course-by-course evaluation of their transcript completed by a foreign credential evaluation agency and sent directly to Averett. This evaluation will assist Averett University’s registrar’s office in determining which of the courses will transfer and be used toward an Averett degree. We recommend that the evaluation be completed by one of the following agencies:

World Education Services, Inc.
P.O. Box 5087, Bowling Green Station

  • TOEFL and SAT 1 score report(s) sent directly from the testing service (Averett’s code for the SAT and the TOEFL is 5017). Averett requires a minimum TOEFL score of 500 (paper-based) or 173 (computer-based). The SAT 1 will be accepted in lieu of TOEFL if a minimum verbal score of 450 is achieved.
  • A letter of recommendation from a school official, teacher or employer.

It is important that students begin the application process early because of changes in the visa application process and the time required to send international mail. If a student wishes to enroll for the fall semester, he/she should submit the complete application by the priority deadline of June 1. The priority deadline for spring semester applicants is Nov. 1. Applications received after this date will still be processed, however it is best to allow at least a month or more for the visa process. The Admissions Committee will review completed applications upon receipt.
