  • May I personalize my room?

Yes and no. You and your roommate should work out a plan for how you would like your space to look. University furniture must remain I the room at all times and we discourage the use of nails. Wacky tack will hold up most posters (which should be tasteful) or tape will do (Duck/Duct tape is not permitted). Also, you may not paint your room, however accent rugs can do a lot for any living space.

  • What size are the room and windows?

The dimensions are based on a double in the area listed below and are approximate.

Davenport 12’ W x 11’ L 70” W x 72” H

Bishop 13’ W x 15 L 50” W x 65 H

Danville 11’ W x 15’ L 45” W x 62” L

All rooms in Fugate are carpeted

  • Are there laundry facilities?

You do and you should make a habit of doing both at least once a week. Washers and dryers are provided at no additional charge (this means no need to bring rolls of quarters). The University expects that rooms be clean and habitable at all times.

  • May I smoke in the residence halls?

No.

  • May I bring a refrigerator?

Yes you may so long as it doesn't pull more than two amps

  • May I bring my paintball gun?

Weapons of any kind are not permitted on campus.

  • Is it okay if my friend or boy/girl friend visits?

Guests are permitted so long as the visitation in in line with University policies. Overnight guests must be registered with the Residence Life Office. AU does have a curfew

for opposite sex visitors.

  • Are pets allowed?

No animals, with the exception of fish in a 10 gallon tank or less, are permitted in the residence halls. Pets are not allowed to visit you in your residence hall.

  • May I bring a window air conditioner?

Students living in Davenport and Danville Halls are permitted to have a 5000 BTU unit or less. Due to it’s age, Main Hall can’t accommodate air conditioners and Bishop and Fugate have central air. Frankly, your need for an a/c is minimal—bring a fan instead.

  • What size is my bed?

The majority of beds are 74” long accommodating standard twin size bedding. There are a limited number of 80” long beds available on a first come, first served basis.

  • Who is responsible for my belongings while I in residence at Averett?

You are! Averett University assumes no liability or responsibility for your belongings at anytime or under any circumstances. It is vital that you check your homeowners insurance policy for coverage options or you may purchase an insurance policy with appropriate coverage for your belongs.
