3. Borrow Books

When you find a book in the Circulating Collection that you want to check out, bring it to the Circulation Desk with your student ID card. Circulation staff will swipe your card and the book, and provide a due date slip, usually for three weeks from the checkout date. Honors Program and graduate students may borrow books for eight weeks.

Videos and DVD's circulate for three days. Periodicals and Reference books do not circulate. They are for use in the library building.

Due dates vary for books borrowed through Interlibrary Loan.

Renew Books

To renew your books for an additional three (or eight) weeks, simply phone the library (791-5690) or write to circdesk@averett.edu.

Avoid Fees!

You are personally responsible for care and safe return of library materials borrowed on your Averett ID card.

Some items in our library were printed in the 19th Century. Please preserve library collections for future generations of students by protecting borrowed items from excessive heat, moisture, food particles, and abuse.

Late fees for most circulating items are 25 cents per item per day, with a brief grace period and a cap on the maximum fine. For Course Reserves, Interlibrary Loan, and Media, late fees are $1.00 per day, with no grace period.

We know that college is expensive! To avoid late fees, renew or return borrowed items before they become overdue. The library will send a courtesy notice to your Averett email account 2-3 days prior to each due date.

Exercise 2

Browse the library's "New and Notable" collection (near the Circulation Desk) to find a book you want to read,

OR, locate a book in the library catalog and in the "stacks" (Circulating Collection),

OR, browse in the stacks to find a book under a specific subject linked from the Library of Congress Classification Outline.

Check your book out at the Blount Library Circulation Desk.
