Introduction
Welcome, business students! This tutorial will introduce you to Averett University Library services and assist you in conducting business research. You can return at anytime to refresh your skills.
Assignments
The tutorial is in 15 parts, with 5 worksheets that you must complete to receive credit for the GPS Library Orientation Workshop. Worksheets will not be graded, however the business librarian may consult with you to clarify learning objectives.

Goals
On completion of the tutorial, you should be able to define and articulate a topic or problem, locate reliable sources of academic and professional information, retrieve a coherent set of sources, evaluate and apply them in a research product or presentation, and attribute your sources using APA citation style.

  • identify useful business databases for your research,
  • develop topic statements and conduct effective searches,
  • link to full text and request documents via Interlibrary Loan,
  • differentiate research based information from popular sources,
  • evaluate relevance, reliability, and currency of the information,
  • be able to assimilate information in a paper or presentation,
  • apply ethics and protocols for attributing sources used.
