   Programmer Dmitri Sklyarov arrested by Justice Dept. after accusations from Adobe that his software violates the DMCA. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 makes it a crime for users to bypass encryption technology. Congress is concerned that end users' right of access to products they have paid for may be impeded by software developer/publisher encryption technologies. Digital or Internet copyright is covered in many specific aspects in the periodical literature, including music/recording industry, film video industry, software industry, and journalism. An important factor is the perspective of developers, artists, and consumers who believe that consumer rights to fair use are threatened by recent interpretations of copyright law, and especially by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998.

This is a complex topic in law, business, technology, and sociology. Our research will focus one or two aspects of the field.
