Jane Appleton Bond

Paintings in oils and watercolors by New York and Danville artist, Jane Appleton are on display this summer at the Mary B. Blount Library. Jane is the mother of Averett Art Director, Kenneth Bond and wife of the late Paul Bond.

The Averett community was saddened to learn of Jane's death on June 26, 2006.

Jane Appleton Bond was known by many people in Danville for her printmaking, bookbinding and work in clay, especially for her tobacco barns and clay dolls.

A graduate of the Parsons School of Design, she met Paul Bond in New York, where they were both members of the Abingdon Square Painter's Guild. Paul and Jane came to Danville in the 1960's to teach art at Stratford College.

Appleton studied in Florence and exhibited her art work in New York, Connecticut, Virginia, Alabama and North Carolina. Her paintings will remain on display at the Mary B. Blount Library through September 30.
