Searching for article content (keyword):

1) Click on "Factiva."

2) Select "In the last year" from the select date drop down menu.

3) Type "(merger* or acquisition*) and bank* and north carolina" with parentheses

Note: asterisk (*) is the "unlimited" truncation symbol.

Note: Keep all other default settings, i.e. "search for free-text terms in full article."

4) Click on any article title to open the document

Note: There is no "Previous Page" button. You must use your back button on your browser or re-run your search. You can only navigate forward.

5) Click on the "Email" icon and email the article to a colleague. Enter your return email address & add a message (optional)

Note: You can select articles from the headline list and email them together.

6) Click the "Send" button

7) Click on the "Return to Headlines" button

8) Select articles by clicking the small box at the left of the article title - create marked list or your reference list

9) Click the "Eye" icon to view articles selected

10) Click on the "Return to Headlines" button

11) Click on the "New Search" button

12) Type the phrase "supply side economics"

13) Open any article and note that the phrase, in its entirety, is found somewhere in the record

Note: Factiva searches words without operators as a phrase, not individual keywords.

14) Click on the "RTF" icon and open the document again

Note: RTF opens up in WORD. You do not need to save the document to disk.

15) Click on the "Modify Search" button

Note: The proximity operator is at work in the phrase.

16) Click in the search box, delete "supply side," leave "economics," and type "and labo?r and legislation"

17) Click on any article

Note: The word "labour" may use British spelling. The "?" (question mark) is the wildcard representing 1 or zero characters.

18) Click on the "Return to Headlines" button

19) Click on the "Company Quick Search" button

20) Type in "red hat" and click "Search"

21) Click on "Red Hat, (USA)"

22) Scroll down the page, click on "Select All," and click "View Report"

23) Answer the following

  • What is the current stock price?______________________
  • What is the total current assests for fiscal year ending (FY)?__________________________
  • What is the total current liabilities for fiscal year ending (FY)?_________________________
  • What is the total sales for 2002?______________________________________________

24) Click on the "Return to Quick Search Results"

25) Scroll down the page and click on "SEC Filings" under "Additional Links"

26) Click on "Red Hat, Inc" under "Last Filing"

27) Click on "Quarterly Reports (10-Q form)"

28) Click on last dated "10-Q"

29) Close the report and click on any news article
