Training and Development
Training Sessions
All new students are provided opportunities to attend training sessions as a part of orientation. These sessions are designed to acclimate the student to Averett's computing environment.
Faculty Development in Technology
Averett enables its faculty to employ appropriate software and hardware when teaching our students through a continuing series of workshops held both on the Danville campus and, in cooperation with our partners, at other universities and institutes as well. Both one-day workshops and longer summer courses are offered. These cover a wide variety of topics and are appropriate for both the beginning and more advanced users of classroom technology.
Online Software Skills Center
Faculty and staff may also learn new software skills online. Enhance
your software skills from the office or home at any time that suits
your schedule. Element K offers over 600 courses ranging from office
productivity packages such as Word, Excel, and Access to web site
and multimedia creation tools such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Acrobat
6.0 and many more. Element K courses are highly modular with each
learning objective designed to take approximately 15 minutes.
Faculty and staff may also take an online
tutorial covering Blackboard's main features and learn to use Blackboard
5.5 within traditionally taught courses or to provide
education at a distance.
Digital Media Development
Facilities are available for the production of rich-media presentation
materials. Digital video cameras are available from Averett's Blount Library
for use by faculty, staff, and students. In addition, software for editing and
producing video and sound enhanced presentations is available in the Media Lab
and in Blount Library. Help developing and editing these materials is available
from The Computer Center.
