About the Coach

Head Coach Kathy Bocock
Head Coach Kathy Bocock is a graduate of Ferrum College. She served as assistant coach at Ferrum and Roanoke College before taking the head coaching position at Averett University in 1992. She was also employed as an assistant facilities manager at the University of Virginia.

Coach Shelby Irving
Assistant Coach Shelby Irving is a local graduate of Tunstall High School. She received her bachelor of science degree from Ferrum College where she played basketball and softball. Coach Irving joined the coaching staff at Averett in 1992.

Under Bocock and Irving's leadership, Averett experienced its best season in 1995 being named Dixie Conference Regular Season Co-Champions. Coach Bocock was named the Coach of the Year for her efforts. Today, Coach Bocock and her staff continue to build the softball program into a regional and national contender.

The women's softball team faces a challenging schedule, competiting against strong Dixie Conference teams as well as nationally ranked teams. The spring schedule consists of 30 games which include double-headers and tournament play.
