A Place to Gather
Averett's new student center will be a 35,000 square-foot building in the center of the Danville campus. Construction is underway and the center is expected to be completed by Summer 2006.
The student center will be fully wired for Internet and includes a dining hall, bookstore/convenience store, snack bar/coffee shop, offices for student support staff, academic support offices and computer labs, game room and an open commons area for gatherings. It will provide much needed meeting space for student groups, areas for student performances and art displays as well as recreation areas and study areas. It will provide valuable space for alumni events, receptions, dinners and small concerts and other productions. It will be a place to gather, greet and grow together as an educational community.
Dining Hall: Open all day with seating for 300 plus; separate serving area and kitchen/support area; multiple levels and seating (tables for 2, 4, 6, 8; booths, café tables); larger traditional area and one or two smaller areas that can be closed-off for more private dining (or use as study lounge); outside dining area; small stage area (pull out) and sound system/ TV.
Bookstore/Convenience Store: Convenience store open late into evening for night classes; bookstore with reading area — sofa and chairs; attractive setting and merchandise for students and community members.
Snack Bar/Coffee Shop: Seating for 40; coffee, smoothies, ice cream, sandwiches and other menu items; performance area, gallery space, Internet connection, sound system.
Game Room: computer game area, TV, variety of tabletop games.
Student Services and Student Activities Offices: Dean of Students, career services, personal counseling, commuter/residence life, career library, student activities, student organizations office and workspace.
Academic Support Services Area: computer lab with 15 stations, classroom seating for 40.
