Art majors have the opportunity to study with accomplished, working artists as well as opportunities to show and sell their own work. Studio classes combined with the study of art history and technique, prepare our graduates for positions in:

  • Galleries
  • Commercial art
  • Community art organizations
  • Schools (must complete teacher licensure requirements)

Throughout their study, art students build a portfolio that will assist them with job or graduate school placement. Students formally meet with members of the art faculty twice during their course of study for an official portfolio assessment. Faculty are also available to consult with students on an informal basis.

Students are strongly encouraged to build a balanced background in the visual arts rather than to concentrate in a single studio area.

All art majors exhibit their work annually in the Averett student art show.
